NBU 5.0MP4 - install question

Newbie here.

Is MS SQL Server absolutely required to install either Netbackup server or client software (regardless of whether or not the server is in fact a SQL Server)?

Thanks for any help in this regard.

No.  Are you seeing something that makes you think that?

My Netbackup 'slave' server (backup master server) has SQL Server installed on it.  There is an existing policy to backup all local drives, and it's failing on C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data\*.ldf files.

If I don't need SQL Server, I'd rather uninstall it.

I'm new here and used Backup Exec 9 for many years at previous job.  Inherited this backup solution and plan and trying to play catch up.

Any documentation confirming that Netbackup doesn't NEED MS SQL Server?

Thanks for responding so patiently.

NetBackup doesn't need MSSQL.  It would be hard to find documetation supporting that it doesn't need any piece of software.

Are you sure there is no other reason SQL is on your server?  mdf and ldf MSSQL files will fail with a Windows-NT file system backup if the SQL DB is up as they will be open files.  You can always exclude them from the backup.  It would also be a good idea to make sure that the SQL data is getting backed up somewhere as well.
