NBU GRT/EXC OST

Scenario:

Source data is Exc 2003 on ESXi 4 with RDM.

Backup done using NBU 7.1 to DD OS 5.0 with OST.

Backup is currently done separately for Information Store and Mailboxes.

Documents I read insist that GRT done on Disk Storage Unit because this is the only way to catalog the GRT backup.

Please explain how the catalog works.

To recover GRT from single-pass backup (i.e. backup = InformationStore +mailboxes), do we necessarily need to backup to Disk SU.

And then duplicate to OST??

Is there any other solution on NBU7.1+patch or NBU 7.5?

Thank you.

According to latest HCL:   http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH76495
GRT is supported with plug-in version 2.5 and NBU 7.5.
It does not mention DDOS version. Best to check with DD.

Hi

We've installed MANY DD installations with NBU. OST Plugin and NBU is NOT supported with Exchange GRT backups. We have a logged case, and symantec is saying they're working on it. But currently it's not supported. You can however use DD's as basic disk within NBU and do GRT backups that way with a seprate storage unit. What exactly are your requirements, do you use optimised replication?

Kind Regards

William

Nope!!! I disagree.

The above used to be the case up to 7.1.

GRT is now supported with DD OST in NBU 7.5. See links in my post.

Hi Marianne

That's great news! I dont know why the guys haven't updated the case. Thanks for the heads up, I'll be sure to test at the client.

Thanks for the update!

EDIT: Sorry I spoke to the site engineer, apparently it has been supported for quite some time, since 7.1 apparently(I know the one client runs 7.1.0.2). Some site engineer just didn't tell the rest of us :p
