NBU not seeing Client OS

I have a problem. I have a cluster that was being backed up fine. Then the inactive node started failing wiith a 58 error. I tried to connect to it via host properties and couldn't connect. It was requested that I uninstall and reinstall our client software and I did. Still couldn't connect. I could connect to the active node through the server name (backing up local drives), and the cluster name (backing up clustered drives). However, when I look at the host properties of the server name, there is no menu for Windows Client and Operating system shows as UNKNOWN 6 and OS type as Other. Also, the client name, which should read the actual server name, shows as the Cluster name. I'm told that no update was done.

We are running Windows 2003 Standard edition and 6.5.2a NBU on the Master and Media servers. The Client is running Windows 2008 R2 64 bit and 6.5.2 Client for 64 bit 2008.

Thanks,

smwoodcrafts

Was the OS on the client upgraded to R2 without the server owners telling you?

W2008 is supported with 6.5.2, but W2008 R2 is supported as from 6.5.5. You will have to upgrade master, then media server(s) backing up this client, then the client.

Compatibility Guide:

NetBackup 6.x Operating System (CL) for Client,Server,NOM,NDMP,BMR,SAN Client,MSEO:   http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH70729

Master Compatibility Guide: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH59978

Marianne,

Thank you very much. The backups did actually run last night, but still having the problems with OS recognition. Looks like I'm going to have to upgrade. Thanks for the links as well, I will make sure to check there when I see a problem like this again.
