I think I've found a bug in the NetBackup NDMP debug code in versions 5.1, 5.1MP3 and 5.1MP3a on Windows (that's all I've tested). Veritas support isn't very helpful though and only ever requests more logs rather than looking at the actual problem ... so I though I ask around if anyone can confirm my suspicions :)
The interesting thing is that the bug only occurs if NDMP debugging is turned on, I've only been able to test it with a EMC Celerra here but I suspect it's a general problem.
If anyone has the time and resources to do so, I'd like to know if the following fails:
- Turn on NDMP logging by creating folders /logs/ndmp and /logs/ndmpmoveragent
- Up the logging level by creating /database/ndmp_debug with "65535" as content
- Take an NDMP backup of a good size volume to tape
It it fails, I'd like to know the error code and ideally a snippet from the ndmp log at the point it failed, my finding was that it always failed when dumping the "mtime" member of a FH_ADD_NODE NDMP message which is why I suspect a bug in their debug code :)
