NBU DR, Catalog recovery from DataDomain over OST. - NBU 8.0 windows2016, OST 3.1.1, DDOS 6.1.1.30
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scenario: Catalog recovery from DataDomain, with known DR-File/DR-package.
Reinstall NBU, same version, same installpath and same hostname.
(from 8.1 you will need the DR 'passphrase' to recover the CA).

NBU master: To create the mediaserver that connects to DataDomain (if not the master).
# admincmd\nbemmcmd -addhost -machinename hostname -machinetype media -masterserver mastername -operatingsystem os_type -netbackupversion 8.0.0.0

NBU master: To create the storage server, but no credentials.
# admincmd\nbdevconfig -creatests -stype DataDomain -storage_server DD01_SiteA -media_server mediaserver.x.x.x

Mediaserver: To add credentials for the DataDommain on the mediaserver.
# Volmgr\bin\tpconfig -add -storage_server DD01_SiteA -stype DataDomain -sts_user_id ddboost -password 'password'

The DiskPool and STU were added using AdminGUI on master server.

NBU master: To 'syncronize' the recovery to the newest DR-File.
# \bin\admincmd\nbcatsync -sync_dr_file C:\drfiles\Catalogbackup_4711_INCR

All media resources were located
Primary Disk Media ID Current Disk ID
@aaaaX @aaaaY

# \NetBackup\bin\admincmd\bprecover -wizard

Hi,

What is the actual problem, why do you need a repair? That info might be helpful.

Without that available, and without knowing the extent of the mess, it might work if you reset the nbwebsvc (passwords and certs) using the link below. But whether that works or not, depends on the mess.....

Once it's reset the repair might work, if this was the cause of the issue.

https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100044601

8.0 to 8.1.2 upgrade failed. Now, quite unknown status, ex. # bpps or a nbdb_ping : white box : The program can't start because vxACE_6.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem. (Also missing : vxTAO_PortableServer_6.dll). Then tried a repair install. (have opened a supportcase).

Can look like we have to do a DR from DataDomain(ost). Any good doc. out there?

That would mean a catalog recovery.

Use the Disaster Recovery section in the Troubleshooting Guide, DR file and your email after the last successful catalog backup.

I just wonder if anyone had done a catalog DR from DataDomain using OST.

Thanks, especially the last link. It "confirms" similar prosedure as for MSDP (nbcatsync to update the DR-files) in https://www.veritas.com/content/support/en_US/article.100006963 - In the mean time we are struggling with reinstalling NBU8.0 on this win2016 box. This 8.0 have been in prod. on this box since moved with DR on 20/11. Then the upgrade 2/12 was left it in pieces. Have set: system variable : 'NBPREINSTALL_CRITICAL_OVERRIDE = YES' to install using nbwebsvc domain user. (from earlier. Should have used a local user). (got eebinstaller_3917066_4_AMD64-191204044425 (-create) from Support to try 8.0 Repair Install to go through.... no luck.). We have tree similar masters, the two first ones are ok, upgr. to 8.1.2. This last one will not behave similar.
