Restore Issue

Hi all experts and gurus,

I am trying to restore a block-level backup that I have done earlier on to a secondary server. During the restoration process I have encounter the following errors. In addition, when running media contents in the NBU reports, it reported a “media position error” for the 1st tape of each set (Each set of backup consists of 2 backup tapes). Both “media read error 85” during the restore was encountered only towards the end of the restoration of the 1st tape where less the data is less than 100mb. I will really appreciate if the experts and gurus out there can advise me on the possible cause and remedies to the problem.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Michael

Hi,

Try first to clean up your drives, can be a hardware issue.

I agree - check for bad tape drive first. If the read error is encountered on block 0  you may have a bad tape index.

You can also check with bpimagelist -l on which device the backup was written. The information is stored in the FRAG entry field 13. Then try to restore on the same drive as the backup was written on.
