Hi
I know that this problem is repeated but believe me I tried everything and nothing solved it, we have netbackup 5.1 MP7 on windows 2003 server, the clients are widows 2003 servers plus windows xp
backup and restore operation on windows 2003 servers are successful but with windows xp computers this problem appears on all the clients during backup and restore; troubleshooter didn't solve it, I tried to change NIC card properties and change security options: still not working!!:(
Any idea?

enable logging l use bpclntcmd -hn from the master n see if its querring ,.
chk for the netstat outputs
07-29-2008 05:08 AM
the bpclntcmd -hn is working fine
the netstat output is

Have you tried the bpclntcmd in both directions? i.e. Master -> Client ; Client -> Master.
bpclntcmd -pn
bpclntcmd -self
bpclntcmd -hn <Master/Client FQDN and/or Shortname>
bpclntcmd -ip <Master/Client IP address>
Any other info from any error logs?

Socket errors normaly are networking configuration problems, check your routes, dns, hosts files, netmasks, bpclntcmd in all directions, telnet <client> bpcd, bpgetconfig -M <client> -x
if after all this you cannot find anything change your verbose to 5, go to the bpcd & bpbkar logs on the client bptm, bpbrm on the media and see if you see any error there or search for the word delay that can be a fact for socket problems.
hope this helps.

Just curious but what status error code are you getting for these clients? We had an issue a couple of months ago with status 25 errors on 2003 servers. The DNS entries were a mix of upper/lower case letters for our Windows media servers. We disabled DHCP, gave it a statis IP, and modified the etc/hosts file and set the host to all lower case. This is unfortunately what we had to do in our environment.
bpclntcmd command output:
testserver: TESTSERVER.myinc.com at 0.0.0.0

The logs you have provided don't appear to show a failure. Recreate the failure after turning up the logging levels and then check that day's bpcd log from the client and bpbrm log from the media server. (You may also want to open a case with support.)

Thank you all
it turned out to be the kaspersky network agent and veritas having some sort of problem regarding to ports!
when I uninstall kaspersky everything work fine, I'm trying now to configure the network agent and the antivirus, I'll send the solution if I found one.
thanks again

Well I cann't find any solution, it works only when I uninstall kaspersky, even when exit or pause the protection it doesn't work.

Hi,
I was working with a client with this same problem and looking in the web I findout my own post who didn't help me to fix the problem, so doing some more research 1 more thing need to be noted in this kind of errors:
1. Firewalls, if the environment is firewalled and all the ports are properly configured, you can telnet bpcd and vnetd from the media server to the client and client to media, you will think everything is fine, but if you run bpgetconfig -M <client> -x from the media server and you get the socket error means the client is getting the connection but is sending the answer from the wrong port. A quick way to fix this is to add the client to the Firewall list in the master server Host Properties and select VNETD port for the BPCD connect-back, use reserved ports and change to VNETD only under the Daemon connection port.
Hope this help some other in the future and remind me in case I forgot.
Best Regards.
