client restore EXIT STATUS 83: media open error from disk

Hi,

I have been facing issues in restoring data from a media server on which data domain is configured. The backups are all running fine but restore is been a pain. There is nothing in FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER for the applicable media server.

Here's the error:

I found an error similar to yours 'failure to open sts for storage server ndc-datadomain-bu3.am.mot.com: plug-in reports error 2060001 one or more invalid arguments' in this TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH160733.

It refers to a situation where a media server is chosen that did not perform the backup. Is this what is happening in your situation?

With OST restores, NBU uses a 'Media Server Load Balancing' logic meaning any media server that was added to the Storage Server can be chosen for the restore.

Long story short, create empty/touch file:
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/config/USE_BACKUP_MEDIA_SERVER_FOR_RESTORE

Not helping....I created the touch file but the backup again failed with same error.

Having another look at restore details, it seems that credentials failed:

Check/verify plugin on Media Server motobk10.
Verify comms between media server and Storage Server ndc-datadomain-bu3.am.mot.com.
Verify credentials.

Backups are running perfectly fine. The issue is only with the restores.

Is motobk10 the media server that performed the backup?

If you look at restore parameters, are all of these the original backup destination or duplicated storage at remote site?

Yes, motobk10 is the media server that performed backups.

I am having this same error on my restores that are from basic disk on our media servers.  I am able to backup without issue but cannot restore.  I get the following errors.  This has been happening since migrating to 7.5.03 on new hardware.   Any help would be appreciated.  When this data is duplicated to tape we can restore successfully.
