Specifies that if the snapshot becomes invalid during a backup, the volume snapshots for the backup are destroyed. The backup continues with Windows open file backups disabled.

Regarding the file that had a problem during a backup - it may be that the file was not backed up by the backup job. The file may not be able to be restored.

If i do the above settings,Backup will ignore the open/active files or backup will complete with status 1 skipping those active /open files?

First of all - snapshot is enabled for this client.

This means you and system owner want snapshots to be taken for open files, right?

Let us go back to the section of the manual that you are looking at.

You are looking at Snapshot error control

This section tells NBU what to do if snapshot provider fails to create a snapshot.

So, a snapshot will be attempted. What happens during snapshot attempt (assuming snapshot provider is VSS) is outside NBU control.  
If VSS informs NBU about failure, this section tells NBU what to do next.

The options are to either fail the backup or continue without snapshot.

In short, Disable snapshot and continue means that open files will not be backed up and job will exit with status 1. 
Skipped files will be listed in Job Details as well as Problem Report for this client.

Important that you send a list of skipped files to the system owner on a daily basis. He/she needs to understand that these files were not backed and can therefore never be restored.
System owner may then agree that these files/folders be added to exclude list.

To troubleshoot snapshot errors, you need to enable bpfis log on client and also check Event Viewer logs for VSS errors.

In summary, your understanding is 100% correct - open files will be skipped and backup will exit with status 1.
