The Dell diagnostics did the trick, Showed up a lot of errors which even Dell could not cover up with nonsense. They replaced the tape drive and everything runs rock solid now. Thanks for the Diagnostics tip Ken !

Thank you for the fast response Ken. All firmware is up to date.Cables and terminators can be a problem but the whole setup is brand new, not that that can be broken.....I"ll have to run Dell diagnostics to see if the Tape drive comes up allright. I'...
