Keep Data Infinitely - Do Not Allow Overwrite

Once a tape has been marked with this status, is it ever possible to recover the tape for re-use?  (Aka...Is there anything I can do that will allow me to overwrite the tape once it is set to disallow that?) Thanks. Nathan
