Mysql and some other things have lock files that show up as 0 bytes big. When BE encounters this file, it literally sits forever and does nothing. No errors, no alerts, no nothing. Took forever to determine the problem.

It made it past three problem areas, so that seems to have done it. BE trying to lock a file of zero bytes sends it into suspended animation forever, clock ticks away, thruput down to 0, but never an error message.
Excellent idea. The one I just ran is a linux box, so there was no aofo I guess, but I had it set to "after 30 seconds". Maybe it cannot figure out the 30 seconds.
