Don't know the root cause but formatting the media, reinstalling BE with a new BESA user did the trick. The drop down menu for read-only operations is not present, however.

Have looked there, the option with the drop-down menu is not present. I successfully erased the cartridge with BE, therefore it can't be read-only, right?

I know what you mean, but I can't find this option. In BE under storage in the details of the RDX drive, there is the media which doesn't show the read-only switch. Edit: Just checked the media details of another RDX drive on another server with BE ...
