EV Proxy between sites
Hello there, We have one AD/Exchange Organization spanning multiple physical sites enabled for archiving with EV. Are you aware if you can use one EV server as proxy for OWA/OA access across two sites part of the same EV Directory. I want to mention that the two sites are configured as separate EV sites within the Directory. Hi All, We are currently in the middle of an Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2013 POC & to date we have had some challenges in regards to the functionality of the Virtual Vault after the installation of Outlook 2013. Outlook 2013 installs without error. We then launchOutlook all looks well with the Virtual Vault in the navigation pane, however when you click on the Virtual Vault to expand the folder set you get the error message "Cannot expand the folder. The set of folders cannot be opened. An unexpected error has occured. MAPI was unable to load the information service EVMSP.DLL. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured". To set the scene we have the current configuration on our POC test case machine - Outlook 2007 SP3 installed side by side with Outlook 2013 15.0.4649.1001: - Enterprise Vault Outlook Addin 10.0.4.1293 - Outlook 2007 SP3 user with Virtual Vault working as expected - Outlook 201315.0.4649.1001 with Virtual Vault, however cannot expand folder set because of the MAPI error above. In order to re-enable the Vault we have had to do one of two tasks below: 1. As part of the Outlook 2013 installation script we perform arepair of the Enterprise Vault add-in, which results in most cases of a working Virtual Vault upon completion of the installation ofOutlook. 2. By running the following commandrundll32 EVMSP32.dll,MergeEVMSPWithMAPISVC To my understanding the reason for this MAPI error is a result of the new installation of Outlook 2013 creating a new MAPISVC.INFwhere the Enterprise Vault services have not been registered. This then results in the Virtual Vault not functioning as expected. In performing one of the two tasks below this registers the service with MAPI, which results in a working Virtual Vault. What i would like to understand is if anyone in the forum has come across an issue like this & what approach you have taken to resolve it. Any insight, suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, ScottSolved4.9KViews1like5CommentsRemove a Users Mailbox from Enterprise Vault Mailbox Archiving
How to Remote a User from Enterprise Vault (EV) mailbox Archiving Outlook for Windows I have had quite a few people ask to be removed from EV archiving for some reason or another. I recently had to spend a lot of time doing it and wanted to share with some people in hopes of making their job a little easier. It is a multi step process that must be carried out in order and will require the users interaction. Situation: A user in your environment needs to be removed from mailbox archiving and wants their Outlook to be like it was before EV was implented. The Fix: Export the users Archive to PST just in case something goes wrong. Use the export to PST option in Export Archive wizard. Basically, make a backup! Use the 'Export Archives to their original mailboxes' This will create duplicate items. The original message and the stub will exist. This action can re-create folders the user has deleted and will restore items to the original location when it was archived. You must make sure the mailbox in Exchange has enough room for growth as the mailbox will grow when you export the items from the mailbox back to the archive. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH35614 NOTE: This will also disable the users archive in EV. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH50905 This is the only way to do this. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/find-messages-or-items-with-a-search-folder-HA010354954.aspx See below for details on making the search folder. Use EVPM to Zap the EV properties from the user’s mailbox in Exchange. If EVPM wasn’t enough, remove the Hidden messages from the mailbox locally to clean up the Outlook mail client. (Optional, but I would do it to be through) EV might not delete the archive immediately. The server may be busy or waiting for another task to complete. Just follow up the next day. Create an Outlook search folder to locate all the mail stubs and delete them. Remove the user from the AD group that made them part of EV. Uninstall the Outlook plugin/add-on from the user’s mail client. Delete the user from EV. Optional: Skip step two and just delete the archive. Do the rest of the steps and give the user the PST you created in Step 1. Or you could open the PST data file in Outlook and drag the messages back into a folder on the OST (Users exchange mailbox). This will merge the PST archive back onto the Exchange database for that user (aka…their mailbox). Search Folder: Right Click “Search Folders” in the Navigation pane of Outlook. Choose “New Search Folder”. Give the search folder a name and choose the “Criteria”, then choose Advanced. The Field should be “Message Class” contains, Value= EnterpriseVault. Save your folder. This will find all the EV mail stubs in the users mailbox so you can delete them.4.4KViews1like5CommentsEnterprise Vault services do not start
Hello, I have a problem in my Enterprise Vault environment. So, the problem is that E-vault services do not start. In "Administrators Guide" i've seen thatIf Enterprise Vault services do not start and report a login failure, the most likely cause of the problem is that the password that has been supplied for the Vault Service account is wrong. If you supply an incorrect password, there will be login failures from all Enterprise Vault services. It's clear alland understood. Reallyi've forgotten my user account password and i accordingly change it. After this behavior the problem still persist in my production.I need very quick response and resolution of this issue. How to make it, how to solve this problem that all services still were worked in a normal mode.. ? Any suggestion will be appreciated, thanks in advance.Solved4.4KViews0likes9CommentsHowto Migrate EV 11 From Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2
Hi, I need to migrate a Enterprise Vault 11 server running on a Windows 2008 R2 server to a Windows 2012 R2 server. Actually we are doing only Exchnage Journal Archiving. What is the best procedure to afford this ??? Actually we don't have Symantec Backup solutions, but i suppose that it could be done with different backup solutions. I'm now using EV 9.0.4 and I'm not sure how to delete the archived content as well ? do I have to go to EV console manually and then right click to delete the Vaulted archive or can I do it smartly with a script ? Because with the Exchange Server mailbox, I can do the mailbox delete with Powershell.Solved3.9KViews2likes13CommentsExtracting Enterprise Vault Archive Data
Hi All, I'm new to Enterprise Vault and I'm having a little trouble putting together an implementation plan for extracting emails out of an Exchange/EV environment using .PST files for import into a brand new environment on a new domain. So far I have come up with the following rough idea: Disable archiving across all mailboxes to prevent any further transfers of data Export all archived mailboxes to individual .PST files and import into new environment Delete all archive stubs from Exchange mailboxes to prevent future conflicts Export all Exchange mailboxes to individual .PST files and import into new environment I was hoping to get some comments on this plan. It might be that there is a far simpler solution that I'm not aware of. The idea of restoring all mail items to their original location is not an option due to capacity reasons. Also, I've been having some trouble researching a method for completing step 1. There doesn't seem to be any way of disabling Enterprise Vault other than setting the archive policy to only capture emails older than 1000 years (or something similar). Am I mistaken here? I would have thought this would be an easy task. Any information would be greatly appreciated!! - ScalliSolved3.8KViews2likes11Comments
