1606 Error While Installing SP2

I'm getting the following error during "Initializing agent for Microsoft SQL Server install components" phase when I try to install SP2 to BE 9.1:

Product: VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows Servers -- Error 1606.Could not access network location Ÿ.

The vaguely related fixes on Microsoft's site do not help.

I've tried running the install with all services shut down and that doesn't make a difference either.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

Thank your for posting your query,

Final Error Description: "While initializing agent for SQL server Error 1606.Could not access network location Ÿ ."

For better understanding of the problem please revert with the following information :
- What is the version of SQL that you are using ?
- What are the Backup Exec licenses that you have ?
- Is it an upgrade from Backup Exec 8.0, 8.6 to higher version (9.1)
Else try these steps..

These are some of the articles I found:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q236813
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q266382

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q271657
Could the %HOMEDRIVE% parameter be for the user you are logged in as only?
-Try to login with a different user to see if that makes any difference.
-Do you have a Service Pack less than 2 on Windows 2000, there are some bugs regarding the %HOMEDRIVE property, but seems to have been fixed in Service Pack2.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q285057 suggests that maybe putting the cd in the drive on a different server and then using the UNC path instead will help.

We hope this information helps, if you have any other questions please respond to the post and we will be more than happy to assist you further.

Thanks for the reply.

I guess I should have mentioned that I'm on Win Server 2003.

My SQL Server (MSDE) version is 2000 (8.00.760).

I'm patching BE 9.1 SP1 to SP2. There is no CD involved. The patch is on the local hard drive for the server.

I have the base BE 9.1 license, as well as Remote Windows Agent, AOFO, IDR, Exchange and SQL licenses.

I will try installing as a different user and see if that helps any.

If anyone finds any other possible fix actions, please let me know. I will update the post after I try installing as a different user.

I tried installing while logged on as a different user (both users have full admin rights on the server) and got the same exact result.

Ended up calling Veritas Support regarding this problem and they walked me through manually uninstalling and reinstalling the software.

Now everything works fine.
