Append Job does not append as long as Scratch Media is available

Hi,

I have a LTO-4 single slot tape loader.

Media Set Daily:

• 6 days overwrite protection
• Infinite Append

Jobs configured "to append if appendable media is available" do not append to the media. Instead they ask for a overwriteable media. That basically happend on all of my jobs, daily, weekly, monthly!

So I deleted all "Scratch" and "Retired" medias from my list and as a result the job finally appended to the tape as expected.

Can anyone confirm BE 2010 R2 does not use appendable media, as long as there are "Scratch" or "Retired" media available under "Media"? If so, why? :)

Does the backup span over multiple tapes? if yes then BE will request for an overwritable media and 

it will not use an any appendable media. Append applies to the 1st tape used by backup job from 2nd 

tape onwards BE will prompt for an overwrtiable media.

For better media management try the below option

Click on Tools->options->Media Management-> select "use recyclable media before using scratch 

media"

No spanning. Is an appendable media considered as "recycable"?

The media whose overwrite protection period has expired is called recyclable media.
