Did you mean:

Append indefinetly

Current settings are: -
Overwrite Protection - NONE
Append Period - Infinite allow append
Append to Media - Overwrite if no appendable media is available

Currently the job will fill the media with backups. If DURING an append backup job the media gets full, veritas will prompt for a different tape.

Is it possible to configure veritas to automatically re use the same media without any prompts or ejecting the tape?

Thanks in advance
Manjit

Hi,

Which option have you selected under Tools> Settings > Media Management?

Select the Overwrite protection level as partial and configure Overwrite protection on media set properties as 0.

Also refer this technote:http://support.veritas.com/docs/254685

Tried your suggestion Shilpa but the problem persists.

Under Tools> Settings > Media Management > we had 'NONE' selected.
Under media set 1 properties we had the append period set to 'Infinite - Allow Append'
The backup job is configured to 'Append to media - overwrite if no ........'

Basically we have one backup drive in the server. The append backup job works fine until the tape gets full DURING a backup job, which is when the tape is ejected.

Is there a way to configure backup exec not to eject the tape in this scenario and continue using the same tape?
or is it just by design.

Thanks again

Hello Manjit,

It seems you are using the Append to media overwrite if no appendable media is available. However in this case, you will need to provide a new media for the job to continue. Backup exec will not overwrite the same media that is in the drive. This is by design.

Revert if you still have any other questions on this case.
