Append period

Ruby_Manuel
Not applicable
I have configured my partitions such that slots 1 and 2 is partition 1 then 3 and 4 is partition 2 and so on. My tapes belong in the same media set that has INFINITE -ALLOW APPEND period. However, not all tapes in the media set show APPENDABLE. When I inventory the tapes in the slots, in the 1st partition, that tape 1 is overwritable and appendable while tape 2 is overwritable and not-appendable. When I run a backup job, it goes to tape 2 first then to tape 1 instead of going in order. My media option in overwrite scratch media first before overwriting recyclable media.

Please advise.

Are your jobs defined as Overwrite or Append?

If they are overwrite, this behavior would be expected.

If they are append, does the job log or alerts tab reflect a notice like
"No appendable media could be found, switching to Overwrite"?

(To be appendable, a tape must have an active backupset on it, and must be within the APP of the last backup that wrote to it. )
