Hello,
We have had RD1000 installed on our server which replaced old tape drive. We do backups twice per week using 2 backup drives (120GB).
Backups run fine for first 2 weeks however recently we got notifications
Media mount failed. User canceled a Physical Volume Library operation. V-79-57344-33861 - The media operation was terminated by the user.
Backup job is set to "overwrite a media" however this does not happen. I've noticed some files from previous backup stays on the drive (previous job folders look like IMG000008 and they are about 16gb) and this may cause media to became full (however I'm not sure if the media is full if the above error is applicable).
Please let me know what can be a problem here.
cheers

Hi,
You might want to read pkh's article on rotating external drives:

Thanks!

Be aware the older versions of BE had a bug where GRT backups would not be overwritten until the target disk became full, regardless of the OPP settings
This was fixed (finally) on BE 2010
See http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH50329
Granular Restore Technology (GRT) used with a Backup-to-Disk (B2D) device results in the disk or the reserved disk space being filled up with overwriteable image (IMG) folders before the oldest IMG media will be overwritten
also see
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH70364
Backup Exec is unable to reuse/reclaim space from OLD IMG media that are located in a Removable Backup to Disk Folder (For example DELL RDX 1000 device) and these IMG media show up under the "Backup Exec and Windows NT Backup Media" media set.

Go to Tools ---> Options ---> Media Management and make sure you have this setting
and the the Overwrite Protection Level is set ti either Partial or Full.
Go to the Media tab, right-click on the media that should be overwritten by the next job and check that the overwrite protection expires BEFORE the start of the job.
Also, go to Tools ---> Alert Categories, click on the Media Insert alert and disable any auto-response. This will allow you to insert a new media when the old media is full.
