BE 12.x to multiple tape devices

We have a problem with two tape devices connected to our BE server.

BE Version 12.0 build 1364 SP3

Tape devices HP LTO Ultrium 4 1840
First is SCSI ID 3 and second SCSI ID 4.
Both are external devices connected to an Adaptec AIC-7902B 320 SCSI controller.
Both can be seen and monitored in the devices tab.

We have two different back up jobs defined.
It is our intention to attach one job for the first device, and the second job for the second tape device.

When we wireup only one device at a time it works OK (and of course edit the target device to the connected tape device).

But when we have the two tape devices wired up, one of the jobs fails.
Error code E00084ED :

Backup- D: STOR DATAStorage device "HP 4" reported an error on a request to write data to media.
Error reported:
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
V-79-57344-34029 - A hardware error occurred.
VerifyStorage device "HP 4" reported an error on a request to read data from media.
Error reported:
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
V-79-57344-34029 - A hardware error occurred.

We have tried two sets of drivers:
Symantec driver halfinch.sys 2007.07.27
HP driver hplto.sys 2007.09.25
but it didn't solve the issue.

Can you please help ?

My first guess is that there is a cable or termination issue.
This may help http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/255501.htm

First though would be to verify the SCSI IDs

if those are correct, Larry is most likely correct.  Cableing or Terminator issues.

If you shut down all Backup Exec services, does NTBackup see and access both drives simutaneously?

Hi Ken
I wil try to verify termination.
I have tried NTBackup, and it only shows one LTO tape device.

I wil be back in a couple of days.

Hi Ken and Larry.
I have now purchased and installed an new SCSI 320 terminator, to be completely shure that the SCSI chain is terminated correctly.
But with no change in the result of running the Backup Exec jobs.
They still fails to execute.
SCSI ID's is still No 3 and No 4.
So do you have an any other suggestion where to find the problems ?

If NTbackup doesn't see two drives, BackupExec won't either

I'm really not sure what to suggest at this point

Each tape drive works if it is the only one connected
you have verified SCSI IDs
you have tried a new terminator

The fact that windows only sees one drive when both are connected sure sounds like a SCSI ID problem, tho

You may need to open an incident with Symantec   :(

Are the devices daisy chained or are they running on seperate channels?

Hi Ben

Yes they are daisy chained.
The server has several channels, as the disk system is running on it's own internal SCSI.
The tape devices have their own Adaptec SCSI adapter.

Hi Ken
Can you please tell me how to open an incident with Symantec ?

I have maintenance / subscription on the software .
