Hi All,
I'm having problem in restoring a VM from the tape numerous time, the scenario was like this:
Backup: From VMware ESXi i backed up the VM into temporary network location (NFS mount) and then from this NFS mount i write into tape after 1 week old (D2D2T works fine)
Restore: From LTO-3 tape drive I already select the restore redirection into the VMware ESXi with specific datastore but it always end up in failed due to the restore into the old NFS mount !
how can i select the restore to directly into the ESXi rather than go to the disk again ?

Sounds like the RemoteAgent service may be stopping on the remote machines
You need to re-install the agent on the remote system first
Also, refer to this KB..

Why does BE 2010 R2 always need to use the staging area again to restore to the ESXi eventhough I already setup the VMware forwarding ?
two steps restoration is way too long and disk consuming.

Are you sure about your restore job properties?
Try again...
New restore job --> Properties --> Destination --> VMWare Redirection --> Choose ESX server.

yes that's what I've done already, see the following:
and here's the restore wizard:

thanks for the reply Mahesh, 10.2.2.50 is the shared network drive (NFS Mount) which is not supposed to be the destination of the restore, what I want is to restore directly to the ESXi02 host so that this VM can be started and quickly restored.
Does AVVi needs to be installed in all of the ESXi and restart the ESXi production servers ? --> hopefully not because that is so ridiculous.

Any GRT option had been used while backing up?
By default GRT will be enabled for VMWare Virtual Infracture agent backups.
10-13-2010 08:22 PM
yes it is checked and used, so should i turn it off ?

You can not restore a GRT enabled backup directly to a location. BEuses a staging location to restore GRT-enabled data from a tape. The staging area must have enough disk space for the entire backup set or sets from which you want to restore.
Check your temporary staging area location. Will be in restore options.
From next time, if you don't want to restore individual items you can clear GRT.

ah, so in this case if i don't select the GRT option it can directly restore to the destination target ?

whats the current status now?
10-17-2010 09:22 PM
it is now success man, after knowing the concept that with the GRT options selected then the backup will be restored in staging area first so it is now in the staging area successfully but not in the ESXi still.
