BE 2010 R3 Server compatible with BE 2012 Remote Agent?

SchiederLeonard

Hi,

I'm trying to create a trust relationship between a BE 2010 R3 SP4 Server running on W2K8R2 and a BE 2012 SP4 Remote Agent running on W2K12R2. Is this a supported environment? If not: how do I backup the files on the W2K12 server using the BE 2010 R3 SP4 Server?

Regards, Leonardo

Hi Leonardo,

1. No BE media server will be forwards compatible with a newer agent, so the BE 2010 R3 media server will not communicate with the BE 2012 RAWS agent.

2. Windows Server 2012 R2 is currently not supported by either BE 2010 R3, or BE 2012. BE 2014 which will be released in the first week of June 2014 will support this. Check the link below:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/backup-exec-2014-ga-date-confirmed

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/backup-exec-2012-r2-update-news-about-windows-server-2012-r2-support-and-target-ga

Not sure how you will backup that server in the next week or so unless you use the built-in Windows backup utility. Once released, you will have to consider an upgrade to BE 2014 in order to fully support Server 2012 R2, which will also see BE 2014 support being installed on Server 2012 as a media server.

Thanks!

Hello,

Maybe I need clarification....

but if it is just the remote agent installed on the Windows 2012 server you can just uninstall the Backup Exec 2012 remote agent and push the Backup Exec 2010 R3 sp4 remote agent onto the Windows 2012 server. Backup Exec 2010R3 sp4 will backup a Windows 2012 server.

It is Server 2012 R2 which is unfortunately not supported officially until BE 2014 next week.

Thanks!

...BE 2014 has been released to it is worthwhile considering downloading this and installing it in the environment.

Thanks!
