Bacing up Backupexec files

I'm sure there is an obvious answer to this, but so far I can't find it.

I would like to back up the Backup Exec files in the event that my backup server goes down. I would need to be able to reinstall Backup Exec and the associated program and data files on a new server to get back up running.

What is the best way to do this?

See http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/231845.htm

Title says move Backup Exec to New server, but the procedure is the same

After making any changes to your system (new jobs, new schedules, new devices,e tc) shut down all backup exec services, and make a copy of the PVL.MDB file (PVLMDB.OLD for example).

Then just make sure that the PVLMDB.OLD file as well as the \Data and \Catalogs directories are backed up. IF you need to rebuild, restore, rename the PVL back to its original name and follow the TechNote.

If you are using software compression, you'll need to do a temp install (to alternate directory) in order to read the tape, then uninstall the temp install and install the latest build over the restored files

The TechNote doesn't mention it, but after following the TechNote, I's stop all the BackupExec services again, and delete everything except the U01 files from the \Catalogs dir. This will force BackupExec to re-index the catalog, so you start out clean. See http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/191281.htmMessage was edited by:
