Back up job without compression

Hi,
I am discovering symantec Back Exec 10.x for Windows, using a DAT Sony SDT-11000 (DDS -2,3,4).

Everything works very well, but the problem is:

When I set the the compression option (hardware/software), the back up works only in native mode witout compression.
What is the the procedure to have compression? to have doble storage for same tape (eg: from 20gb to 40gb).

Hi,

Compression depends upon the type of the data. When graphical data like pictures, presentations are being backed up, mostly data doesnt get compressed.

Text Data can comparitively be compressed till 80%

I have made several and different backup, mostly files like .exe. txt, doc, but without compression.

If you select software only, do you get any compression?

From Devices Tab, righrt click the drive\Properties - is "enable hardware compression" selected?

Some drives have a jumper that must be set on the drive itself to enable HW compression, check your manuals

Dip switch is properly setted for HW compression,
I will check veritas tab property.
