Backing up VMware 4.1 and 5.1 via one Backup Exec 2012 Server

I currently have a backup Exec 2012 server backing up six 4.1 VMware hosts via a vCenter server.

We will soon be installing a new VMware 5.1 environment with its own vCenter server to allow us to decommission the old hardware and create new hosts on new hardware in the 5.1 environment.

My question is can a single backup Exec 2012 server backup both environments?

Thanks

Steve

Not yet as we don't support ESX  5.1 (we do support 5.0 currently)

However once we do release 5.1 support then the answer should be yes

You would just add both vCenter servers in as separate entities and then create the jobs via the two vCenters

As I believe a 5.1 vCenter can manage 4.1 systems you might even be able to plan to merge the management and should still then be able to do backups. I have used a 5.0 vCenter server with a 4.1 ESX host.
