Backing up remote SQL database on different domain

Hi there,

I want to back up an SQL database on a remote server - I have installed the remote agent on the remote servers OK but because the rmeote servers are on a domain outside of the Windows Network, the only way I can add them to the tree in Backup Exec is as User Defined selections. Doing this allows me to backup files which are listed under the tree in the usual way - however having done this, there is no option to back up the SQL server and I cannot see a way of doing this.

As I understand it, there is no need to install the SQL agent on the remote server - there is no way of doing this anyway (not an option when I installed the remote agent) - but I do have enough SQL licenses to cover this.

So what do I need to do? Surely someone else out there has needed to back up a remote SQL database on a different domain? Any ideas anyone?!

Is the firewall/router between the Domains configured to pass the port associated with MSSQL (1433, IIRC)

Can you ping both ways by both IP address and machine name?

Can SQL manager on your primaryh domain see the SQL server in the other domain
