Hi,

In order to backup Active Directory of a Windows 2003 server, select the entire Shadow Copy Components for backup.

Refer to the following technote only for informational purpose.

Technote: A backup of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 fails with the message "To fully protect Windows Server 2003, you must select Shadow Copy Components for backup" even though Shadow Copy Components were selected.

Thank you for the reply. But when I select to backup the c: windows backup will complete with the following exception:
File skipped:
c:\windows\security\edb.log
C:\security\edbtmp.log
c:\windows\security\tmp.edb
c:\windows\security\database\.sbd.
Should I just ignore the exception?

Hello,

Select these files as excludes and verify that the System State is backed up, that is shadow copy components. The files will be restored with the System State.

Thanks.
