Backup EMC NS40 with Backup exec 10d where error message "Remote Agent for Windows Servers license is required" issue

Dear all,

I am going to backup a EMC NS40 CIFS share using backup exec 10d, but the job failed and the error shows "A Remote Agent for Windows Servers license is required".

I tried the below action:

1) I have checked the "Enable selection of user shares" check box.

2) I have created some CIFS shares under "User-defined Selections" but those shares were dimmed and cannot be selected.(Refer to the attached ScreenShot and job_log also attached)

3) I have created some shares from customer desktop under "User-defined Selections" and those shares CAN be selected.

Below are the questions I am wondering:

1) Is the Remote Agent for Windows Servers license is a MUST to backup a NAS CIFS share?

2) Is this issue related to any port issue? such as ndmp.
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/293652.htm

3) If the Remote Agent is not a MUST, is there any workaround where I can backup the NAS CIFS share without  it?

I was suffered from this issue since last week and would like to get help from all specialists and experts!!

Thanks a lot!!

Dico

Have you logged onto the EMC box and disabled the NDMP service or changed the port to something other than port 10000? If you can telnet from your media server to port 10000 on your filer then that will be your issue. That is the standard NDMP port, which the Windows Remote Agent uses, which we attempt to for every backup. We get tripped up when that service is running because we think there's a remote agent there when there is not one.

Also - make sure that you have a System Logon Account and that it is set to a admin account (domain admin if the machine is a part of a domain).

If you still have issues attempt a CIFS share of a Windows box and see if you can pull that off.

Dear Collin,

Thanks for your reply.

I tried below configure:

1) Delete the ndmp setting of file netd in DataMover_2 and DataMover_3 then reboot all.

2) Cannot telnet to port 10000 after the amendment.

3) Enabled the below check boxes in Tools=>Options=>Network and Firewall:

"Enable media server TCP dynamic port range: 1025-65535"
"Enable remote agent TCP dynamic port range: 1025-65535"

However, the CIFS share still dimmed and cannot be selected.

Do you have any idea about that?

Thanks for your kindly help!

Best Regards,

Dico
