Have Checked this forums for solutions and have tried the following:

All service accounts start with domain admin account apart from Remote agent which is local user

Tape drive is installed on seperate scsi controller.

Tried deleting backup jobs & recreating them.

Can anyone explain why our backups are not working

We have Win 2003 server with Backup Exec 10.0 installed fresh.

Regards,

Simon

"Overwrite Protected Until: 06/04/2005 12:47:34 PM" that looks like the tape is overwrite protected.

If the tape is full and Backup Exec does not find any other scratch media in the media set then it will look to overwrite that media depending upon the settings for media management (In this case its set to overwrite) and if the media is Overwrite Protected then it will ask for overwritable media.

Please look for any ACTIVE ALERT being generated and respond to it.

Change the overwrite protection: Right click media set properties.

Incase the issue is unresolved, Follow these steps:

1) Disable and delete the device in Backup Exec.
How to recreate tape drives and autoloaders in VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) for Windows Servers
http://support.veritas.com/docs/192144
2) Stop all BE services.

3) Restart all BE services.

4) Install veritas drivers.

5) Repair Backup Exec database.
How to run a database repair in VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.x for Windows Servers when the original database is found to be inconsistent
URL: http://support.veritas.com/docs/265180

6) Run the INVENTORY.

7) Test the backup.

Hello,

I would like to confirm whether you have tried reload from base.
If not then please refer to the technote:

note: All media sets, backup-to-disk folders, and other settings will have to be created or configured again.

How to create a new SQL database in Backup Exec 9.x and 10.0 when the original database is corrupt and cannot be repaired

If you have already tried this please revert.

Thanks,

This is how I finally fixed the same error after a lot of effort and failed attempts.

Test your tape drive to be sure it works outside of Backup Exec. I had an HP drive. Go to hp.com/go/tape. Find the link under "value added software" for "Library and Tape Tools", click that link, download the software. L&TT is a free diagnostic tool for HP tape drives and libraries. If it works, the problem is within Backup Exec. (I was using 12.5 with the very latest drivers, literally posted this week).
  1. Disable the tape drive in Backup Exec (right click on it)
  2. Delete the tape drive in Backup Exec (right click again, need to disable first) This must be done in Backup Exec! Doing the same in Windows Device Manager and rebooting did not fix the problem.
  3. Stop all the Backup Exec services (I did this with services manager & confirmed in Windows Services)
  4. Start all the Backup Exec services
  5. The tape drive should be re-detected.
