In our virtual environment ,we have several servers running on a mix of windows 2003 and 2008 however when updates are applied to all, the ones running 2003 seem to lose their Backup exec 2010 agent alltogether .
Once the agent is reinstalled a backup can be run fine but this is a very frustrating issue
has this been seen before and can anyone help ?

Hi,
Do you have some sort of group policy in place that maybe removes the RAWS agent?
Is the media server fully patched and have these BE patches been push-installed to your remote servers?
Thanks!

It is not a group policy issue , the problem seems to be when the agent is pushed from the backup server and the install hangs at 100% then the only way around this is to reboot the target server and start the agent service . so it appears because the install hasnt been recognised as being completed , if you then install any other application you recieve
Error 1704 An installation for symantec backupexec remote agent for windows is currently suspended you must undo changes made by the installation
Also i have just been informed tht it is also the 2008 servers that have this problem aswell

Hi,
Not sure why I didn't pick up on this, and not sure why if it has been solved or not, but have you tried to do a manual installation?
If this still doesn't work you might have to remove all traces from the registry and the installation directory (backup the registry first!), and then try the push-install again.
Thanks!

is it backup exec 2010 or backup exec 2010R3, if not R3 you can consider to upgrade backup exec to 2010R3 latest SP4 and then update the remote agents and check, apart from that make sure windows is running latest service pack, it would e good to refer to software compatiblity list before appling OS service pack to make sure it is compatible with BE, find the link for SCL below.
Hope this resolves the issue
