Backup Exec 2012 and VSS

Hi,

We have a 2008 r2 server with backup exec 2012 sp2 installed. This a new installed of backup exec. However it keeps on failing on this error:

 - Snapshot Technology: Initialization failure on: "\\xxxxxx\System?State". Snapshot technology used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).

V-79-10000-11226 - VSS Snapshot error. The Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshot technology selected returned: "Unexpected provider error". Ensure that all provider services are enabled and can be started. Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.

All VSS writers are fine.

As anyone got any ideas?

Many Thanks

Does one of the volumes in use by the server sit on a disk storage array that has installed it's own VSS support as part of a driver package?

HI,

The server is the one which backup exec is installed on and has raid array. I am not sure that that VSS support has been installed but is there easy way of checking?

what options have you enabled in AOFO?

Try with

 * Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Server (Windows 2003 and later).

and select as Snapshot provider : System - Use Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Service Provider.

Run the job to check if it works

Hi Ben,

Run the job and when job fails check on the remote server Eventviewer and see if you have any Error with Event ID under Application for VSS.If yes please post it here.

Since the Snapshot initilization failure is happening on system state check if System Reserved Partition is online.
