We are using Symantec Backup Exec 2014 running on Windows Server 2012 R2
We have started experiencing an issue where the program will no longer write to tapes that are overwritable. Now, we have to scratch a tape before the program will write to it.
Please respond if you know anyway to fix this or if you have any questions.

In BE console, click on the home button ->Configuration and Settings ->Backup Exec Settings ->Storage.
Make sure the Overwrite protection level is "Partial" and Media overwrite options is set to "Overwrite
recyable media before scratch media"

The tapes may be bad. Have you tested this with new tapes?
Check Windows Events for System errors
also try a power cycle of the tape device
1. Power Off the Server completely
2. Power off the Tape Drive then
3. Power on the Tape Drive wait till it is at a 'Ready' State then
4. Power on the Server

Those settings are already set correctly. See attached.

We are using new tapes. This is the first time we are trying to overwrite them.
I tried the power cycle you advised and it did not work.
When I preformed a test, the program cycled through each of the overwritable tapes, but did not write to any of them. The job status of my test is now set to Active: Queued.
