I need to know how many Applications and Database license need to protect:

* Two mailbox cluster (Exchange server 2010

* Two Domain Controllers cluster (Windows server 2008)

I want to confirm that I will need 4 Licenses, for each node on the two clusters one license. Am I correct ? or I need only 2 licenses. In both case Active/Active and Active/ Passive.

Hi Janaka,

Your inquiry is almost the same to below post

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/backup-exec-licenses

Backup Exec is licensed per active node. You may contact Symantec Customer Care, they are the ones who handles Symantec Licensing.

You will have to install the remote agent on both the Exchange Server nodes, but a single Application & Database license should be enough to backup the database in the cluster.

Backup Exec would see the database as a single database

And the number of Agent for Application & Database license needed depends on the number of databases you are backing up.

So a single Application & Database license would do.

For DCs, it is enough if you just install the remote agent.

Since when? The Agent for Applications and Databases is licenced on a per application/database per server basis. It is never licenced based on the number of databases backed up.

For DCs, it is enough if you just install the remote agent.

This is not sufficient if there is a need to restore individual AD objects
