Backup Exec 9.1 Saying Insert Media in Middle of Backup

So my Backup exec has been messed up for awhile and kept giving me errors when I backed up (only on certain days, communications errors, data inconsistency errors). So I decided to reinstall it. When I reinstalled, I kept all the previously setup jobs. Now when I try to backup to tape it spits it out after only backing up 16G. This is a DDS4 drive and DDS4 tapes. Tried a new tape and the same thing. If I put another tape in, it finishes the job. Before the reinstall it backed up the whole thing on the same drive with the same tapes (when it didnt error out).

The only thing special about this job is that it backs up the online backup from the hard drive.

Anybody got any ideas?

Hello,

As the Backup exec asks to insert the media in the middle of the backup job ,
-- check if you are getting any alerts in the Alert tab.
-- Also check the overwrite protection and Append period settings:
Refer the following technotes for the more information:-
An explanation of the "Overwrite Protection Period" and the "Append Period"
http://support.veritas.com/docs/237374
The basics of Advanced Device and Media Management for VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) for Windows Servers
http://support.veritas.com/docs/192265

Generally, this the alert gets reported because a "backup" job was performed in VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) and there are no tapes in the tape drive that Backup Exec can use to continue the backup. Backup Exec is waiting for tapes that can be overwritten (including scratch, blank, and recyclable media) to be placed in the tape drive. After placing tapes in the tape drive, respond to the alert in Backup Exec.

All the media is set to overwrite. I think it may have to do with compression. I read this post http://forums.veritas.com/discussions/thread.jspa?forumID=103&threadID=48113&messageID=4368493
and it seems to be the same problem. With hardware compression, it it runs out of room at 16G. If it is set to software compression, it runs out of room at 20G. I reinstalled Backup Exec and set it to use the OEM driver and gives me the same thing. Is it possible my drive is going bad? Or is it just some compression setting I am overlooking?

I can't even find anything on HPs website for this drive, so there goes the idea of updating firmware.

If the drive is also known as a DAT40, see
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?pnameOID=18545&locale=en_US&taskId=135&prodSeriesId=441546&prodTypeId=12169&swEnvOID=181

URL is probably wrapped

Customer has put this issue on hold. Please keep posted. I have not updated any firmware as of yet. Thinking of just replacing the drive anyways... Need to hear back from customer to find out the next step.
