Hi,
Recently our Backup Exec 12.5 backup job rates dropped from 150MB to 70MB for a certain group of machines. The logs indicate only servers going through a particular firewall are affected. Obviously next step will be to work out what is the change made on the firewall causes the issue.
My question here is, is there a way to test backup job rate apart from running a backup job... For exmaple, is there a BE tool that I can use to test?
In general, what will be the things to look out when troubleshoot BE Backup job rates.
Any feedback will be appreciated.
Cheers,

No. There is no tools to test the job rate because there are a lot of factors that will can affect it. Of the top of my head, look out for the following
1) workload on the media server and/or the remote server.
2) number of files to be backed up. It is a lot slower to back up 1000 small files than a couple of big files.
3) disk fragmentation of both the source and the destination if you are backing up to a B2D folder.
4) is the NIC configured for full duplex.
5) congestion on the network.

Hm.. intresting, could that be because of the hard drive in the media server needs to be defragmented ?
