Backup Exec Restore Job lists.

At many companies over the years it seams I have seen backup exec working this way, but now I have a client asking me 'Why'.

This client is using an Ultrium Autoloader with 4 tapes in it at a time.  Each server (8 total) has it's own backup job and is scheduled to backup within a time range.  The first one launches with Overwrite, the next 7 are set to Append.   Full backups every night Monday through Friday.

Their rotation period is 2 weeks until the same tapes go back in again.

When I choose Restore, my selection list is always missing things.

When choosing View by Media, today I see

Media Created 3/30/07

Media Created 3/29/07

Media Created 3/28/07

Media Created 3/27/07

Media Created 3/26/07

Media Created 3/23/07

Media Created 3/22/07

etc...

Where is 4/2, 4/3, and 4/4? 

Even more importantly, the customer wants to know,

If I look by Resource View at 1 server it says

3/30/2007

3/29/2007

3/27/2007

3/22/2007

3/16/2007

3/13/2007

3/2/2007

But it has backed up every week night.

Another server says

4/3/2007

4/2/2007

3/30/2007

3/29/2007

3/22/2007

3/16/2007

But that one ran also on 3/26 3/27, 3/20,3/21, and 3/23.

Every server seams to have different selections here.

So any ideas on what's up with that?

What is the OPP (Overwrite Protection Period) for that media set?

How much data will fit on one tape?  One Server's worth, two? 1 1/2?

How often does the client swap tapes out of the loader?

Sorry I took so long... I am only at this client 1 day a week on Tuesdays.

All eight jobs write to the same media set?

- yes, there is the one Default media set Backupexec created- OPP = None

What is the OPP (Overwrite Protection Period) for that media set?

-  APP = None - Infinite - Allow Append

How much data will fit on one tape?  One Server's worth, two? 1 1/2?

- Some Servers are <100 Gig, one is over a Terrabyte, so I can't relly answer that question.  Tapes are 200G Native, 400 Compressed.

How often does the client swap tapes out of the loader?

- Every day Monday through Friday

I'm not sure what is happening here

If the first job of the night is defined as Overwrite, and the rest are all Append, Else Overwrite, there is no way that I know of for you to see what is happening, unless the client is not changing all the tapes every night.
