Hi,
We plan to purchase BE2014 V-Ray Edition for the following working Environment:
2 Clustered Hyper-V Host with 2 Processors having 8 cores each
Each host has 3 Virtual Machines:
File Server using 4 cores
Management using 2 cores
AD using 2 cores
We would like to back the images of the virtual machines and the files and folders in the File Server Virtual Machine
Appreciate if you enlighten as to how many licenses should we need to pruchase;
Thanks,
PTU

The V-Ray edition is licenced on a per occupied CPU socket basis. In your case, you would need 4 licences.
I don't know what you mean by Management, but if those servers do not have any applications and databases. It might be cheaper to just buy 2 Hyper-V agent licences which would also entitle you to load RAWS onto your VM.

Using the Hyper-V agent and with a single backup (where GRT is enabled), you can restore complete VMs (.vhd) and also restore individual files and folders. I would recommend you to have a look @ the Hyper-V agent whitepaper for a detailed understanding on the agent's features - https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/backup-exec-2014-technical-white-paper-protecting-hyper-v-environments
So there is no need to buy any extra agent for the VMs since they are included. You'll need agent for windows license only if you are planning to backup physical machines.

Per the licensing guide, V-Ray edition has two licensing tiers and should be purchased per the number of cores inside the sockets.
V-Ray Edition 2-6 cores
V-Ray Edition 8 plus cores
So if each host has 2 processors with 8 cores each, it would be 2 V-Ray Edition 8 plus cores per host. Best to verify with the licensing team as well - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/assistance_care.jsp

Thank you VJware and pkh for the quick response.
So we need to buy 4 (four) V-Ray Edition 8 plus cores and these would be installed in the host to back up the images of the Virtual Machines. But, how about to backup the Files and Folders in the FS virtual machines, is it already covered or do we need to purchase additional Backup Exec Agent. It somehow confuse us because we need to have the VM images backup from the host and the Files and Folders from inside the File Server VM.
Thanks again.

Hi UTP,
PKH and VJWare are correct.
To answer your additional inquiry, yes Backup Exec V-Ray edition also covers and capability to backup the Files and Folders of a File Server running in virtual machines.
The following backup components are included with Backup Exec V-Ray edition:

Thanks a lot VJware, pkh and Adonis.
You all are very helpful.
