Backup Exec for Netware 9.1 - can't see remote windows servers

I am running Backup Exec 9.1 on Netware 6.5 SP 5. I am backing uo several remote servers that are on the same LAN. I have installed 2 new Windows 2003 servers and have installed the Remote agent for Windows ver: 9.1.4691.56 on both servers. i have added the serial numbers and ip addresses to the NDMPSVRS.DAT file. I can ping the servers by name and ip from Media server end and from the remote servers. I cannot see the 2 new servers listed when looking at the agents. I have refreshed the list and have tried to look from the server administration console and and the windows administration console. In both cases the servers do not appear.

Does anyone have any ideas pleaseSmiley Sad

What 'build' of Backup Exec do you have? Check in install_volume:\bkupexec\version.doc for details.

Do you have any firewall or VPN software running on these windows servers? If so, disable it and try again..

Finally, check in services - is the remote agent service running?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply. Apologies for the long delay.

I do not have any firewall or VPN software running on the Windows 2003 servers. The BackupExec service is running on the Windows server.

The BackupExec build is : version 9.1 build 1152

the version of beremote.exe on the Windows server is: 9.1.4691.56

Thanks
Meeta

That's a very old build. First thing to try is to download and install the latest build of 9.1:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/289707

Make sure that you also push out the remote windows agents from this updated build.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the advice. I will download this build and install it.

NetWare 6.0 SP5, Windows 2003 SP2

We had the same problem:

We installed the Remote Agent with the push Option.
The firewall on the Windows Server remains disabled
all the times.
After the installation the service runs on the Windows
Server and the Server name is added to NDMPSVRS.DAT
on the NetWare Media Server.

We could ping the Media Server from Windows by Name
but pinging the Agent from NetWare failed due to an old
IP Address in DNS. This old address was added to DNS
by dyn DHCP Updates during installation phase of the
server.

After correcting the Name Resolution inside NetWare
the ping by name succeeded and the Remote Agend appeared.
