Backup Exec with Dell PowerVault

MetaPharm
Not applicable
We are using Symantec Backup Exec 2012 (version 14.0) running on a Windows Server 2008 64-bit PowerEdge server. We are looking to add a Dell PowerVault NX3200 to our environment and configure it in Backup Exec as disk storage for backups. Has anyone used a PowerVault NX3200 with Backup Exec before? We are finding limited information as to the compatibility (specifically with Symantec's de-duping license) between the two. We are also curious if anyone has been able to utilize the multiple NICs in the PowerVaults. Would Backup Exec take advantage of teaming two or even four NICs together to achieve higher throughput with backups? How was the configuration process for you? Was it worth the extra configuration/hardware costs? Thank you, Mike

Hi Mike,

Best thing to do is start by making sure that the device is on the BE 2012 HCL...

We tried to implement NIC teaming on our media server.  It literally brought our backups to a near halt.  Luckily, the server team opted to revert back to one NIC using IPV4 and our backup system went back to working like it is suppose to.

Later, after a little research on a totally different problem, I came across a TECH document stating that Symantec does not do NIC teaming and if you do have two NICs, under Network and Security, you need to set it one of the NICs and select IPV4.

In our shop, we are running BE2010 R3 on a Dell R710 with a RAID and TL4000 attached.
