Backup Job Engine System Service is not Responding

Rick_Dewalt

I am at my witts end and don't have a clue as to what to do! I am running BE9.1 and receive 2 errors every day and they are "backup job engine system service is not respoonding" and "The job was automatically canceled because it exceeded the job's maximum configured run time." I did have Windows server 2003 SP1 installed but have removed SP1 to see if the back up would correct itself but it has not. About a month ago I uninstalled BE9.1 and reinstalled it and at that time I did have SP1 installed for Windows server 2003. This did not work. I tried last week to install BE9.1 SP4a and received an error that it could not be installed at this time. I tried to uninstall the entire BE9.1 in control pannel and it won't uninstall. This is why I uninstalled SP1 of windows server 2003 and I still cannot uninstall BE9.1. So I tried to install BE9.1 and the install will not start. I would like to remove BE9.1 completeley but can not. Is there an uninstall utility to remove BE9.1? I have not had a back up in over a month. Please Help!!!

I tried your suggestion and the window won't open to repair. I get a small window that states windows is configuring BE and then disappears, then nothing!

Hello,

Do you have APC Powerchute Business Edition installed on the machine? If yes, try the repair installation after having stopped the APC services.

Check out for any relevant Event IDs in the event viewer. Are any events related to the Msi installer to be seen in the event logs? Also check out for any relevant errors in the bkupinst.log file which is found in the Windows Directory.

I do have APC powershute business basic running. I stopped both services and retried with the same negative result. Below is a part of the backupinst.log refering to my attempt to repair the installation of BE after I stopped the APC services. Also the MISInstaller gives me an error code 1603 when I tried to install BE9.1 SP4 update last week. Today I am trying this from terminal server at a remote location and there is only a warning in event viewer.

If I have to remove BE manually (delete directory and edit the registry, removing all entries related to Veritas and BE) is there a negitive result? Will I be able to reinstall BE 9.1 after doing this? Is this even wise to do this since it could be something else causing my problem?
