Backup Recovery Confirmation

stl10
Not applicable
Hello all,

I need help in answering a question.  If you chose to run a restore to make sure that data can be restored but during your restore you actually decided to restore an empty directory (no files in it) and the restore shows successfull does it mean  that any file within that tape for example would be able to be restored. Or can you have instances were certain files within the restore are corrupted.

Thanks

Hello,

Restoration will NOT delete anything on the TAPE. Just like copy and paste..it dosent work like CUT-PASTE...

Hope this helps...

It is recommended that you set your backup job to verify after the backup is done.  This would ensure that the data on the tape can be read and is correct.  However, if the tape is stored for a long time, the tape may deteriorate and the data may become unreadable.  In cases like this, it is possible that certain files within the backup cannot be read and thus restored.
