I am trying to backup an Exchange 2007 mailbox cluster using Backup exec 12.

I have installed the remote agents on the two mailbox servers (active and passive node).

When trying to backup i get the folowing error:

Backup- EMAIL2V-79-57344-34110 - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "\\ADAPTMX.AdaptIT.co.za\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group". Advanced Open File Option used: No.
Snapshot provider error (0xE000FE1F): The device cannot be found.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.
V-79-57344-34110 - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "\\ADAPTMX.AdaptIT.co.za\Microsoft Information Store\Second Storage Group". Advanced Open File Option used: No.
Snapshot provider error (0xE000FE1F): The device cannot be found.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.

My setup is as follows

  1. AdaptMX.adaptit is my virtual cluster name for the exchange environment.
  2. Mailboxes - windows 2003 R2 enterprise edition sp2 with exchange 2007 sp1
  3. Symantec Media server with tape drive attached- Window 2003 Enterprise with sp2

Hi

Thank you for detailed information on this

Can you please confirm the BE 12.0 version is that with any update like sp5 if not please update BE 12.0 with sp5 & then update your remote agent on both the node to sp5 by doing push install

Please confirm if you are using AOFO for the backup if that is the case please do not use it as it is not recommended to do backup using AOFO as you have exchange agent

Please confirm the writer state if they are in failed state or retrayable state or waiting for competion by typing vssadmin list writers in cmd if that is the case please install vss rollup patch for Microsoft

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940349

You need to install this on the node were the writer are not stable

Please also see related articles

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH72853

 http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH87234

After all this if you install patch one reboot is required please confirm if writer's are stable before the backup job & if they are stable please run the job too see if that works

If this resolves the issue please mark this solved

Keep posted

Thank You

As you have mentioend Active and Passive node - are you using CCR or a traditional cluster. If using CCR, are your Exchange backups configured to Backup from the Passive node, if they are then please change this to the Active Node only.
