Backup exec crashes

Dear folks,

we are using Backup Exec 10.0 Build 5484 including SP4 on a Windows Small Business Server 2003 for full and incremental backups.

Since since days we randomly get error messages through the Exchange server stating that the incremental backup could not be written as the system service of the Backup Exec is not available. The tape is ejected and an error message appears on the server screen stating the backup exec job engine crashed.

szAppName: bengine.exe szAppVer: 10.0.5484.30 szModName: bengine.exe
offset: 000d59e4

Now my questions are:

1) is there a newer version for the German language version of BE 10?

2) can someone confirm the problem of crashes of the backup exec job engine?

Best regards

Stphane Martin

The latest version og Backup Exec can be found here:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/279332

What is the exact error message logged in the application event viewer.
Does the backup fail during the backup process? Is some data aldready backed up?
Waht are you backing up (files, exchange mailboxes) ?
Are you taking remote or local backups?

NOTE: If we do not receive your reply within two business days, this post would be marked assumed answered and would be moved to answered questions pool.

The error message is:
(Event-ID: 1000, Category: 100)

"Fehlgeschlagene Anwendung bengine.exe, Version 10.0.5484.30, fehlgeschlagenes Modul bengine.exe, Version 10.0.5484.30, Fehleradresse 0x000d59e4"

which means ...

"Failed application bengine.exe, version 10.0.5484.30, failed module bengine.exe, version 10.0.5484.30, error address 0x000d59e4"

The backups fails after running some minutes. The selection list (included folders e.g.) includes a data partition (D:) of the hard disk which consists of the user and share folders, the Exchange 2003 setup (information store) and MSSQL server.

> Are you taking remote or local backups?

All backups in this selection are local (not from other machines).

Best regards
Stephane
