Backup exec install options

Hi,

I am currently trying to figure out whether I should install the "agent for vmware and hyper-v" feature on the main backup exec server to push out the agent for hyper-v or install the agent on hyper-v machine directly using the backup exec cd? software: backup exec 2012

Currently when I push out a agent to a hyper-v server the icon for that hyper-v is displayed with a small windows icon only and not the virtual machine icon. see attachment.

Thanks in advance.

H Please try this then. I presume hyoerv license is been added by you in BE2012 and please add your virtual machines using the add ribbon and check http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH183038 Also I preume remote agent is been already installed by you on virtual machines. Thanks

Agent for VMware or Hyper V feature gets enabled once you install the license key of the feature

on the Backup Exec server. Apart from installing RAWS on the VM you don't have to install anything

else on the VMware or Hyper V server.

Hi When you install the virtual machine license. You will see next to add ,add vmware option in there please add the name of your esx for virtual machine or enter the name of hyper host which will list the virtual machine under it. To install remote agent on virtual machines ,please install it by push install of backup exec. Thanks

Thks both of you. I have installed the license and the features. However when I tried adding my hyperv01 host as you suggested through vmware option it gave me an error saying cannot connect to vcenter or esx host. Any suggestions?

yes the hyperv license is added in BE2012. I have managed to push out the agent to my hyperv host.

I was trying to create a backup job for a hyperv hosts but can't seem to be able to granular select hyperv machines directories. Only getting the option to backup all vhd file.
