Backup exec replication offsite

Hi Veritas, Here you go!, Im new in backup exec. We have 4 site including the head office and in every site there's 1 server with 10 VM's on it. OS: Windows/linux VM: Vmware 6 We would like to implement to backup every VM's and also replication offsite. 30 mbps vpn connection from 1 site to another. 1. Do we really need 1 CASO and 4 managed BE servers to implement the replication? 2. Do we really need also the optimized dedp option for this? 3.What is better? ala carte or capacity licensing?

Hi,

1. Yes, using CASO with 4 BE server licenses is the correct way to do this.

2. You would use a B2D target on each site to run backups too. Best bet is to be a deduped backup per site. Once done, the CASO would replicate those backups to a central site using Optimized Dedupe. Bear in mind you need to set up your CASO environment correctly in order to allow the CASO server to control backups on the sites as well as replication of remote data.

3. For licensing questions, you should reach out to the Veritas licensing team as they'd be in a good position to advise you accurately.

While these are for BE 16, the concetps should be the same.

Thanks!
