Backup failed. Directory not found. Can not backup directory ?

I just had my backup fail yesterday, the log file states:

Directory not found. Can not backup directory ?Joe Smith and its subdirectories.

This is listed for 3 users and occurs when backing up the microsoft exchange mailboxes. Interestingly, these are the last 3 mailboxes to be backed up. They are all active users and I have not deleted any mailboxes. The mailboxes are still there and they can access their mail. Any ideas?

Ken, thank you for your reply. I looked at those articles and they do not apply to my situation. I only have one exchange 2000 server running and it was not upgraded from 5.5. I only have one tape drive so concurrent backups does not apply. I don't know, I'm a little stumped.

A friend of mine told me to run the ESEutil on an offline defrag of Exchange, the only problem is you need 110% of free space to do it and I don't have that type of space on that drive. I would have to move the databse to a separte network drive in order to perform this. Does anyone think that might take care of it?

Might fixit.

Just make sure that you have a good Stores backup before running the ESEUtil ;)
