Backup job won't complete.

Hi all.
I've recently been using another backup product so if I'm asking a very simple question let me know.

I've installed BEX on 2 machines, created login information and did a test job where I backed up a few files on both.
Last night I attempted to run a full system backup of both machines and the job is shows up in the job monitor as running. The status is "Loading media" with a yellow question mark.

I've turned on logging and every 15 minutes the following message is sent to the debug log
11/08/05 14:30:03 DeviceManager: processing pending requests
11/08/05 14:30:03 DeviceManager: going to sleep for 900000 msecs

The logs from the start of the backup job look like this
DeviceManager: incoming event fired
11/07/05 19:00:02 DeviceManager: processing pending requests
11/07/05 19:00:02 DeviceManager: query cache miss
11/07/05 19:00:02 Available and held drives from the pool
11/07/05 19:00:02 DELL 1 {52ec8942-80fe-4c1f-8057-2412f51188b6}
11/07/05 19:00:02 Drives not in use by the Engine
11/07/05 19:00:02 DELL 1 {52ec8942-80fe-4c1f-8057-2412f51188b6}
11/07/05 19:00:02 Drives available (not in use and not held)
11/07/05 19:00:02 DELL 1 {52ec8942-80fe-4c1f-8057-2412f51188b6}
11/07/05 19:00:02 Handing out session {eafeb839-e69f-4efb-b965-6848ffe49c15} based on available drive:
11/07/05 19:00:02 DELL 1 {52ec8942-80fe-4c1f-8057-2412f51188b6}
11/07/05 19:00:02 DeviceManager: going to sleep for 900000 msecs
11/07/05 19:00:02 BackupJob: acquired device DELL 1

How can I troubleshoot this further ?

Did you try to use the same tape as the test job?

If so, BackupExec was probably observing the OPP (Overwrite ProtectionPeriod specified for the media set specified.

If you inventory the tape, does the info show up in bkue or black. Blue would indicate an overwritable tape, black a protected tape.

If it shows in black, drag it to the scratch media set.

If the job specified Append only, BackupExec will not accept a tape with no active backup sets, or that does not belong to the media set used by the current job.

Ken,

I'm testing a backup job to a hard drive.

I'll do some reading on the OPP because I'm a bit unclear on that. The job was specified as an overwrite.

Can you tell me where I can set the OPP for the media set, more specifically where can I turn it off.

OPP is set per media set. From the media tab, right click the media set\Properties, but may not apply since this is a B2D job.

Is this to fixed hard drives or to Removable drives?

It was to a fixed hard drive.
I'm testing with the tape now. But I since it already started I'll have to wait until it is finished to check the properties of that and any other media.

Tomorrow morning I'll let you know how it went. In the meanshile thanks for pointing me in the right direction
