Backup of Solaris 10 is succesfully but when you restore there directories with strange names

Hello,

We are using Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 Rev. 2213 to backup a Solaris 10 server. The backup is succesfully but when we try to restore the files and look at what is on the tape we see that directory names are changed or that files are placed in a different directory.

For example the directory name backup is on the tape baccup ?

Does this sound familiar to anyone ?

Have you installed the HF mentioned in the below article.

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH169707

Also you need to patch the remote agent once the HF is installed on the media server.

Refer to below blog on patching RALUS

Hi,

Yes we have installed the HF you mentioned.

Common reasons for such an issue is unsupported version of Solaris or unsupported kernel version...

For egs. BE 12.5 supports Solaris 9.0 SPARC & Solaris 10 SPARC and x86-64 only

And also ZFS file system is not supported....

The version we are running is BE 12.5 and Solaris 10 on intel platform x86-64.

I just checked the version of beremote on the Solaris machine and it is the sparc version which is wrong because it should be the intel version.

I installed the version that was in Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Agents\RALUS64\SunOS directory on the Media Server.

I'm going to check where i can find the version for Solaris on x86-64 intel platform

Can somebody tell me which version i should use for the Solaris on Intel platform ?

\Backup Exec\Agents\RALUS64\Linux\VRTSralusPatch.tar.gz

\Backup Exec\Agents\RALUS64\SunOS\VRTSralusPatch.tar.gz

The SunOs verison is for sparc and i need the intel version. Can i install the linux one ?

Thanks

Instead, 12.5 had a separate download for RALUS...i think it was called - BEWS_12.5.2213_LINUX-UNIX-MAC-SAP_AGENTS.tar.gz

Use that installer instead & these are the instructions for RALUS install on Solaris - http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH46614

EDIT***

You should be download it from - https://www4.symantec.com/Vrt/offer?a_id=51792

Hello VJware,

We have followed your instructions and have downloaded the file and document and installed the Ralus software. We then ran the backup job again but with the same result. Then we installed the hotfix 169707 and we ran the backup agian. Unfortunaly the problem is still the same. The backup goes fine but and is successfully but the data on the tape isn't.

When you look at the picture you see what i mean. There are directories double, there are copies of directories but with the name changes like the .java directorie. The new directorie is then called .jvva and there are more.
