Backup to disk on a remote computer fails with V-79-57344-34036 and 0xe000fe2d

Hallo

I have configured our Backup Server (Running Backup Exec 10.d SP3 on a Windows 2003 Server) to backup the Exchange mailboxes (also Windows 2003 Server and Exchange 2003 and remote agent for exchange) to backup the data to a backup to disk folder on the Exchange Server (about 80GB).

The Backup usually works the first time after I have created the backup to disk folder but usually fails afterwards with errors like that:

The backup to disk folder is confiugred this way:
Max size =200GB,
Max Backup sets = 1
Overwrite Protection = 2hours
Append Protection = 1 hour

We have about 300GB free space on the exchange server.

On the Exchange Server the backup agent runs as local system account. The user on the Backup Server has domain administrator privilegs.

Backup from the Exchange mailboxes to the Tape drive on the Backup Server works perfect (but takes quite some time) The idea behind the backup to disk was to backup the mails first to the backup to disk folder and than from the Backup to disk folder to the tape drive.

The strange thing is that I find in the system security log of the Exchange server is that message: the Backup Server seems to log off from the Exchange Server, and logs on in the same second.

Wen I have turned on the logging on the backup exec agent on the exchange server I find that messages in the log:

It failed that night it failed again, I have turned on the logging on the Server (Engine, BEServer, BEUtility, Adamm)

Change the max size from 200GB to 1GB. BE will simply create extra B2D files as it needs them. If you have max backup sets set to 1, then it will try and create a second file for your second job. I'm not sure if it'll try and reserve 200GB at this point, but it might well be the cause.
