Hi everybody,
I have a customer whose backup to tape stopped working some days ago.
It's a Windows Small Business Server 2011 with Backup Exec 2010 R3 installed.
It has been working fine for 1 year now.
The problem is that the tape drive seems to be busy as soon as the Backup Exec services starts.
If the services are stopped, the tape activity stops, if the services are restarted, the activity resumes.
The activity monitor in Backup Exec shows no active jobs and the tape is seen as busy in the Devices tab.
What's I've tried :
Hardware :
Change the tape drive --> no change
Change the scsi card --> no change
Firwares updates of the server --> no change
Software:
Remove the tape in backup exec and device manager of Windows + restart of the server --> no change
Complete cleanup of the DB as in this post : http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH67239 --> no change
Check of the BEjobs table in the Backup Exec DB --> there's only the configured backup job to hdd.
Complete reinstall of Backup Exec --> no change
Check for updates --> no change
Thanks in advance.

Hi Jean,
Right-click the server name under the Devices tab within BE and chooise Pause. Give it 30 seconds, and then repeat but choose the Unpause option.
See if this resets things.
Thanks!

...possibly an antivirus that is actively scanning your BE services?

Thanks again Craig, there's no antivirus on the server.
